What This Part Does
A heat pump dryer uses a small compressor, much like a fridge, to heat and dry the air inside the drum. The 15µF run capacitor gives the compressor motor the extra phase it needs to start and to run efficiently. As a capacitor ages it can lose capacitance, swell or leak, and the compressor may then struggle to start, overheat and cut out on its thermal protector, or not run at all. The drum keeps turning, but the dryer no longer dries properly.
