What This Part Does
The defrost sensor is clipped to the freezer evaporator, the cold coil behind the rear freezer panel. It tells the control board how cold the evaporator is, so the defrost heater switches on and off at the right time. When the sensor fails, the defrost cycle stops working properly and ice slowly builds up until air can no longer flow from the freezer to the fridge.

Repair Difficulty
Moderate: the rear panel inside the freezer has to be removed to reach the evaporator, and the ice needs to be fully defrosted before you start. The sensor clips onto the evaporator pipe and connects to the existing wiring. Check how your original sensor is connected before removing it.

When the evaporator has iced up because of a failed defrost sensor, the defrost thermal fuse (Samsung DA47-00095E) can also fail at the same time. If the heater still does not come on after fitting a new sensor, it is worth checking the fuse and the defrost heater too.
