Get your Kenwood Chef or Major mixer driving properly again with this genuine small pulley and tension pin, part number 650350 (also listed as KW650350). What This Part Does
Inside the base of a Chef or Major, a toothed belt links a small pulley on the motor shaft to a larger pulley on the gearbox. This small pulley is the driving end of that belt. The tension pin passes through the pulley and the motor shaft, locking them together so the motor power reaches the bowl tools and the outlets.
Common Fault Symptoms
- The motor runs but the beater or outlets turn slowly, intermittently or not at all.
- The drive slips or stops when mixing heavy dough or a full bowl.
- You can hear clicking, grinding or a rattling noise from the base of the mixer.
- The pulley teeth look worn, cracked or rounded, or the pulley is loose on the shaft because the pin has broken.

Repair Difficulty
Moderate. You will need to remove the base cover and drive belt, then drive the old pin out of the motor shaft with a pin punch while supporting the shaft. Fit the new pulley, tap in the new pin and refit the belt. If the belt shows worn or missing teeth, it is worth replacing it at the same time.
Typical Tools Required
- Screwdriver to remove the base cover
- Pin punch and small hammer
- A block to support the motor shaft while driving the pin
Description
Kenwood Chef and Major mixers are built to last for decades, and the small motor pulley is one of the wearing parts that keeps them going. Heavy dough, long mixing times and a tired belt all take their toll on the pulley teeth over the years.
Replacing the pulley and pin together restores a positive drive between the motor and the gearbox, so the mixer can handle full loads again. Supplied as a genuine Kenwood part with a new tension pin, ready to fit.
Electrical or gas appliance parts should only be fitted by a suitably competent person. Always isolate the appliance before inspection or repair and ensure correct safety checks are carried out after fitting.
