What This Part Does
The on/off switch sits behind the power button and connects the mains supply to the vacuum motor. It is a latching push switch: one press turns the vacuum on and the next press turns it off. After years of use the internal contacts and latch can wear, so the vacuum may refuse to start or cut out unexpectedly even though the motor itself is still healthy.
